  • Leadership Style and Approach Statement: “When the team is heard, seen, and noticed, the team is motivated and efficiently works towards both personal and professional goals.”

This is the statement I choose as my Leadership Style and Approach Statement because it summarizes what I learned in this course and what I have experienced in my current work. Even a little acknowledgment or compliment instantly boosts a worker’s motivation to work. Workers’ attendance is almost perfect when they know they are appreciated by management. This is one of the most convincing evidence I found in the Webtext: “In a study run by Kansas State University, it was estimated that happy workers are, in fact, more productive” (Soomo Learning, 2021).

  • Leadership Skills:

In chapter 3, I learned about leadership styles and was tasked to make a leadership map. I listed active listening, understanding, and excellent writing skills. However, only active listening and understanding effectively lead a team and reflect my leadership statement. Let us be honest: most communication at work is physical through body language or words. Excellent writing skills will not be as useful, so I need to develop my public speaking skills and develop a more confident body language. Improving my emotional intelligence will also help me in becoming a better leader. I only scored “okay” in the Emotional Intelligence Self-Assessment, but to improve this, I need to learn more tips to increase my EQ, especially my self-regulation, and be more mindful.

In the first self-assessment we had to take, I learned that I am highly open, highly conscientious, agreeable, and understanding. These are attributes I can bring to help me become a better leader and coworker, but I need to work on my extraversion or find a way not to be drained when around other people. I also have an excellent decision-making approach, scoring 67 in the decision-making assessment, while on the final chapter, I scored a 69 on the leadership skills assessment. Still, I want to improve my leadership style and skills and change from a Charismatic/Authoritarian style to a Transformational style or a Participative style. I believe these two styles are the most ideal because they allow employees space and creativity and reflect the goals that I want to achieve in my leadership statement.

  • Leading and Following

It is essential to be able to both lead and follow when working in a team because even if you are in a leadership role, you are still following orders from someone, probably your boss. When you can experience being a follower, you will be able to better treat your subordinates and coworkers and set an example for them. By being able to lead, you can organize the team in the best way to maximize what skills or strengths your team members have.

  • Leadership Style

According to the self-assessment for leadership style in Chapter 3, I scored an authoritarian or autocratic leadership style. However, I believe the Leadership Style that I follow in my workplace is a mix of Charismatic and a bit of Authoritarian. My goal is to have a Transformational or Participative style. I do not want to be merely a boss; I want to change my workers’ lives positively.
